Merwyn Bagan receives honors from Nepalese King

Merwyn Bagan was awarded Suprabal Gorkha Dakshina Bahu from His Majesty King of Nepal.
The award is given to a Nepalese Citizen, or occasionally a foreigner, whos is judged to have made significant contributions to the welfare of Nepal.

Jacques Brotchi receives honors, elected to Senate

WFNS Jacques Brotchi was knighted in 1988 by King Baudoin. He was elected to the Belgian Senate in 2004. He has also received the following awards : Commandeur de l’Ordre de Léopold (Belgique), Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur (France), Chevalier de l’Ordre de Danneborg (Danemark), Grand Commandeur de l’Ordre Civil du Mérite (Espagne).

Yoko Kato promoted to Professor at Fujita Health University

Yoko Kato, MD was promoted to Professor at Fujita Health University in Aichi, Japan. Prof. Kato is the first woman in that country to become a full professor of neurological surgery. She is on the editorial boards of multiple neurosurgical publications, with research interests that include cerebral aneurysms and new vascular imaging. She was the founder of the Women's Neurosurgical Association (WNA) of Japan in 1990 and of the Asian Women's Neurosurgical Association in 1996.

Edward Laws to perform 5000th surgery

WFNS Past President Edward R. Laws, Jr. prepares to celebrate his 5000th transsphenoidal operation in the coming year. Doctor Laws is the author of hundreds of peer-reviewed journal articles and mutliple textbooks, and isconsidered a wolrd authority on disorders of the pituitary gland.

Francois-Xavier Roux announces construction of pediatric neurosurgery department in Cambodia

Prof. Francois-Xavier Roux has announced that a pediatric neurosurgery service is being constructed in Phnom Penh, Cambodia by the non-profit group, ''LA CHAINE DE L'ESPOIR''. The cornerstone was laid recently, in the presence of the King of Cambodia, Norodom Sihamoni. Founded in 1988, the organization's mission is to aid children in indigent countries. Dr.Roux is Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Hôpital Ste. Anne, Paris and is actively involved in this and other neurosurgical philanthropic projects in Asia.

Graham Teasdale knighted by Queen Elizabeth II

IN 2006, Professor Graham Teasdale, Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Glasgow University, was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his service to neurosurgery and to Britain. Sir Graham has authored hundreds of peer-reviewed articles and is best known for his ground-breaking development of the Glasgow Coma Scale, used throughout the world to efficiently and accurately describe the condition of patients with head injuries.
