| Although there have been numerous medical advances over the past decade
leading an improved outcome for many medical conditions, the prognosis
of patients with malignant brain tumors remains uncertain. The authors
of this book review the latest findings regarding the epidemiology,
genetics, molecular biology and pathology of brain tumors, as well as
new developments in their treatment.
The chapters of this book have been divided into three major sections. The first section is devoted to the molecular biology, genetics, epidemiology and pathology of brain tumors, including information on their classification, profiling, brain tumor models, cerebral metastasis, and progenitor cell biology. The second section focused on the cellular and genetic pathways involved in oncogenesis, malignant progression and therapeutic response. This section provides an overview on oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, DNA damage and repair, invasion and migration, growth factors, aptoptosis, signaling, developing, and cell biology. The final section provides information relevant to the treatment of brain tumors. This section includes information on gene therapy and bio-therapy, drug delivery, immunotherapy, and brain imaging. Rather than providing a comprehensive clinical review of brain tumors, this book focuses on recent research advances. As such, Brain Tumors would be of interest for cancer researchers, pathologist, oncologist, neurologists and neurosurgeons with special interest in brain tumors. |
