1) What is NEURONET LISTSERV®?

NEURONET is an email discussion list for neurosurgeons that serves as a forum for academic and clinical discussions and knowledge sharing specific to the specialty of neurosurgery. Neurosurgeons worldwide are welcome to join. The official language is English. All must respect the guiding principle for the list and that is discussions are held at a professional, academic, and scientific level. NEURONET is run by the WFNS on a dedicated server so that your information is safe and individuals have access only after subscribing and being approved.

2) How to Subscribe?

3) HOW TO SET-UP AND MODIFY YOUR ACCOUNT

The easiest way is https://listserv.wfns.org , click on Subscriber’s Corner, enter the email address you used to subscribe and create a password. This will bring you to the NEURONET list, select the heading My Settings and create how you want to receive messages. Use the ? (question mark) to understand each of the 12 settings. The alternative is to send the below commands to the LISTSERV®. If you want to stop receiving messages for any period when you might be away, the easiest way is to follow the instructions in 6) below.

4) How to unsubscribe?

Send an email with no subject and the below in the email body

signoff neuronet

to listserv@listserv.wfns.org

5) These addresses are confusing. Where do I send my postings?

There are two addresses to remember.

The address for commands is listserv@listserv.wfns.org. This is where you send commands such as "sub", "unsub", "review" etc. in the email body and without a subject.

The other is the actual list address neuronet@listserv.wfns.org to which you send only your postings which will be read by all others on the list. Try not to send commands to the list address since then everyone will receive and download a meaningless message.

6) How do I turn off mail while I am away?

If you go away and don't wish to have thousands of Neuronet postings waiting in your electronic mail box when you return you can turn mail off and then back on when you return.

To turn mail delivery off send

set neuronet nomail

to listserv@listserv.wfns.org

When you return, simply send

set neuronet mail

to listserv@listserv.wfns.org and mail delivery will resume.

7) Who is subscribed to NEURONET and where are they from?

To check on your own personal Neuronet "settings" or to get a list of all Neuronet subscribers send

review neuronet

to listserv@listserv.wfns.org

To see which countries are represented by getting a list of subscribers sorted by country send

review neuronet by country

to listserv@listserv.wfns.org

8) How can I get all the old postings from NEURONET that I missed?

All messages posted on Neuronet are archived and stored by month. To obtain messages from a certain month send

index neuronet

to listserv@listserv.wfns.org and look through the list and then as instructed send

get neuronet logxxxx

to listserv@listserv.wfns.org and retrieve the archived file of interest.

9) My postings do not seem to get through...why do I not see them?

The listserv by default does not send your own message back to you when you send it to Neuronet, therefore it may appear that your messages are not getting through but they are. To get a copy of your own posting sent back to you (do this as a useful check on successful transmission) send

set neuronet repro

to listserv@listserv.wfns.org

10) Too much mail!

You may find that you are receiving too much NEURONET mail and that it is difficult to download so many messages every day. You can switch to digest mode which will send you all the messages over a given recent time period as one bolus. Simply send

set neuronet digest

to listserv@listserv.wfns.org

if you want to switch back send

set neuronet nodigest

to listserv@listserv.wfns.org

11) How to change your email address:

If your email address changes please send

Be certain you send it from the address used when you initially subscribed.
Then please email wfns.neuronet@gmail.com privately to add your new address.

12) NEURONET Rules / Regulations / Requests To Subscribers

a) Neuronet Commandment #1 When replying to a previous posting please do not include the header of that message in your quote since it mixes up the LISTSERV® program.

b) Please use a signature such as:

Thomas Smith MD,FACS
Dept. of Neurosurgery, University of Alaska, Anchorage, Alaska, USA
Interests/Subspecialty – Brain Tumor

this provides members of the list an idea as to with whom they are communicating. We realize it is a pain to type all that every time but many email programs have the ability to store pre-typed signatures.

c) Please contact wfns.neuronet@gmail.com with any change of email address. If you do not, all your mail bounces and you will be unsubscribed.

d) Remember this is an educational and scholarly forum for neurosurgeons. Please be aware that commercial activity will be extremely frowned upon by the members of the list.

e) Please save the introductory letter you will receive upon first becoming a NEURONET subscriber. It contains valuable tips that you may want to use in the future but certainly will forget. This will save you time.

f) When uploading photos and imaging studies, try to conserve bandwidth as everyone does not have good internet access.

g) Finally, we suggest that your first posting to the list be a brief self introduction describing your qualifications, practice and research interests, academic affiliations etc.

Once again, please contact wfns.neuronet@gmail.com with any questions or if you have any ideas as to how we can or should modify and/or improve NEURONET so that we can make it a truly worthwhile educational experience.
